Man Utd 1-0 West Ham Player Ratings: McTominay the hero, Van de Beek flops again
By admin | | 0 Comments |

Manchester United bounced back from their disappointing draw with Everton at the weekend by defeating West Ham 1-0 after extra time in the FA Cup fifth round at Old Trafford.Substitute Scott McTominay scored the winner in the first half of extra time as the Red Devils booked their place in the quarter-finals.Wonderkid Amad Diallo was named on the bench for the first-time since his big-money transfer from Atalanta last month, but did not see any game-time.Man Utd v West Ham: Player Ratings, Match Stats, Player StatsSo which players stood out most?✔️ GOOD PERFORMANCEScott McTominay: 7.8The Scotsman came off the bench to replace Nemanja Matic after 73 minutes and proved to be Man Utd's ultimate hero on the night in extra time.He timed his run from deep to perfection as United launched a lightning-fast counter-attack. Without breaking stride, he fired home clinically from inside the area to break West Ham's resistance.McTominay now has an impressive six goals in all competitions for Man Utd this season, a more than decent return considering the position he plays in.Alex Telles: 7.7It has been a fascinating fight for the left-back shirt at Old Trafford this season between Alex Telles and Luke Shaw, and the Brazilian did his chances no harm on Tuesday. He was United's most available attacking outlet throughout the match, bombing up and down the left flank. He delivered an impressive 10 crosses in the normal 90 minutes alone and had over 100 touches. He was taken off as the game entered extra-time after really putting in the miles.❌ BAD PERFORMANCEAndriy Yarmolenko: 5.8Yarmolenko is having another miserable season in East London and has scored only one goal in all competitions. He made no impact once again versus Man Utd. He made no dribbles, created no chances and had just one attempted shot which was blocked. Worst of all, he only made five passes in his time on the pitch. It came as no surprise when he was hooked by manager David Moyes after 54 minutes.Donny van de Beek: 6.0Van de Beek continues to struggle to justify his big transfer fee and failed to make the most of his opportunity against West Ham.Given an opportunity from the start by Solskjaer, Van de Beek made little impact. He had no dribbles or crosses and made no chances as once again his lack of creativity was apparent. He attempted only one shot that was blocked before being subbed on 73 minutes.⭐ STAR MANFred: 8.0The Brazilian was everywhere and never stopped for the whole 120 minutes. He was involved in everything Man Utd did, making a game-high 154 touches. His passing was excellent as he boasted a 90 per cent pass completion rate - with 43 of these passes in the final third. He was also as tenacious as ever, winning nine duels and all of his aerial challenges. Premier League Table: Leeds leapfrog Arsenal with Crystal Palace win
By admin | | 0 Comments |

Leeds produced a commanding performance to beat Crystal Palace 2-0 on Monday and move 10th in the Premier League standings ahead of Arsenal.Marcelo Bielsa’s side took the win thanks to goals early in either half from Jack Harrison and Patrick Bamford respectively. Although a team noted for the number of goals they concede, Leeds gave up few chances against a Crystal Palace attack that looked rudderless without the injured Wilfried Zaha. For Palace, defeat means that they remain 13th in the standings, with little danger of being sucked into the relegation battle or being involved in the European fight.Earlier in the weekend, Manchester City had strengthened their grip on first place thanks to an emphatic 4-1 win over Liverpool. Pep Guardiola’s side are now five points clear of Manchester United, who were held to a 3-3 draw against Everton in a remarkable match at Old Trafford.Liverpool, meanwhile, remain fourth in the standings, though 10 points behind City, who also have a game extra to play over all of their nearest rivals, it seems that their title defence is set to end tepidly.Leicester continue to occupy third, while Chelsea are coming up strong in fifth after a fine start to life under former Paris Saint-Germain boss Thomas Tuchel. The Blues have now won their last three matches.West Ham and Everton continue to vie for European spots next season, while Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham and Aston Villa are not yet out of contention either. It was a good weekend for Newcastle in the lower half of the table, as they were the only side in that area to pick up a win.Meanwhile, Sheffield United, West Brom and Fulham continue to be cut badly adrift in the bottom three, with the Cottagers eight points shy of 17th-placed Burnley. Pogba to miss out – How Manchester United could line up against West Ham
By admin | | 0 Comments |

Manchester United will likely be without Paul Pogba on Tuesday night as they aim for a spot in the last eight of the FA Cup when they host West Ham.The Frenchman was substituted just before half-time in the weekend’s 3-3 draw with Everton grasping his thigh and will almost certainly miss this cup tie. Fred replaced him at Old Trafford on the weekend and he will likely be the man to step into the starting XI in what will remain a largely strong Manchester United side. One likely change will come in goal, with Dean Henderson having started every game in either cup competition so far this season – there is no reason why that shouldn’t continue. Aaron Wan-Bissaka has impressed with a more attacking mentality from right-back and should continue there while it will likely be Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof at centre back with Eric Bailly still nursing an injury. There could be a change at left-back with Luke Shaw given a well-earned rest, allowing summer recruit Alex Telles to come in for what would be only a 14th appearance of the season. Scott McTominay was superb against Everton, adding a second Premier League goal in as many games, but having started four games in 13 days there could be an opportunity for Nemanja Matic at the base of midfield, alongside Fred in Pogba’s absence. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appears to have fallen upon a first-choice front four, which at the moment does not have Anthony Martial in it. The Frenchman could be given an opportunity in the cup here though, despite competition being rife among the attacking options. Bruno Fernandes should continue in the side along with Marcus Rashford, but the other two places are well and truly up for grabs. Mason Greenwood scored in the last round, of the cup, Martial scored two off the bench against Southampton, Cavani has had back-to-back league games with goals and Donny van de Beek has played both FA Cup ties from the beginning so far. Four of those must go into two spots, and they will likely go to Martial and van de Beek, with the cup games providing both the perfect opportunity for more minutes and the chance to play their way further into Solskjaer’s plans.Manchester United starting XI versus West Ham .

Concussion substitutes in the Premier League: What are they and how are they used?
By admin | | 0 Comments |

With the growing long-term fear of concussion over the wellbeing of players, concussion substitutes have been introduced on a trial basis in the Premier League.Aston Villa’s home encounter with Arsenal was the first match to take place after they became part of the laws, but in what competitions can they be used and in which circumstances? What are concussion substitutions? Concussion substitutes have been introduced in a bid to stop clubs taking undue risks with players who have head injuries. There are concerns that footballers have played when concussed, and there are fears for their long-term health as a result. With concussion substitutes available, clubs are given another two potential changes to use over the course of a match if a player is suffering from suspected concussion. It is up to the discretion of club doctors to decide whether a player falls under this category. What is concussion? According to the NHS: “Concussion is a temporary injury to the brain caused by a bump, blow or jolt to the head.“It usually only lasts up to a few days or weeks, although it sometimes needs emergency treatment and some people can have longer-lasting problems.“It's important to avoid head injuries as repeated concussions or blows to the head have been linked to serious problems, including a brain condition called chronic traumatic encephalopathy.”What happens when a concussion substitute is made? The process for a concussion substitute to be made is slightly different to the normal substitution procedure. Instead of the usual white form handed to the fourth official, clubs will use a green form, indicating the difference between the types of change. These players are permanently removed from the game.Additionally, it should be noted that if a concussion substitute is made, the opposition are given one additional change. For example, if Arsenal had used one concussion substitute against Aston Villa, the Birmingham side would have been given an additional change to make on top of their usual three.Do clubs have to make a concussion substitute when a player has a head knock? Although clubs are compelled to take players suffering from a head injury off, they do not necessarily have to use one of their concussion substitutes to do this. Why would they not? Simply because it would offer their opponents a chance to use that additional substitute.Let’s use the Aston Villa v Arsenal example again. If a Villa player suffered a suspected concussion after 85 minutes, they would be granted the opportunity to change them. Of course, if they had used their full complement of substitutes, they would have to dip into their concussion change pool, but if they had only used two of their regular changes, the player could be brought off in that manner.By using a regular substitution, Villa would be depriving their opponents of having the luxury of making an additional change.Who was the first to use a concussion substitute? No-one has used a concussion substitution in the Premier League as yet.How long does the concussion substitute trial last? The Premier League will trial these changes until at least the end of the 2020/21 season. It can be extended until the end of the 2021/22 campaign, however. Why are concussion substitutes only in the Premier League? It is important to stress that this is only a trial and not yet a permanent law of the game. The Premier League is the only major competition taking part in this trial, although less celebrated competitions are testing it.One of the reasons that Premier League clubs are doubtless so keen to implement it is because they are one of the few major competitions in which there are only three substitutes permitted this season. .

Man Utd are Europe’s deadliest team in stoppage time
By admin | | 0 Comments |

Manchester United are the team in Europe’s top five leagues that are most dangerous in injury time at the end of games. For years under Sir Alex Ferguson, United were known for their propensity to score key late goals. Indeed, the intimidating figure cut by Ferguson on the touchline, and the subsequent pressure the referee was said to be under, led to this period being known as ‘Fergie Time’.Current manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was the scorer of one of the most famous of these goals as he netted in the 1999 Champions League final as Man Utd came back from behind to beat Bayern Munich 2-1 down very late on.His side appear to have inherited the knack of scoring late on, too.Which team scores the most late goals?United have scored six times this season after the 90th minute – no other team in Europe has more that four. Indeed, each of Europe’s top leagues has at least one team on that mark, with Real Madrid and Milan the most notable.Meanwhile, Man Utd's great rivals Liverpool do not have a single stoppage-time goal to their name this season. Andrea Pirlo’s men may be third in the Serie A standings, but they are top when it comes to performing late on, with 14 goals. Goals after 75 mins in Europe's Big 5 LeaguesThe best side in Spain, meanwhile, are runaway league leaders Atletico Madrid, who have netted 12 times in the closing stages of matches. That mark is equalled in the Premier League by Chelsea and Leicester, as well as in Italy by Inter and Sassuolo.Germany is the league in which there has been least late action, although Bayern Munich have still managed to score 11 times in the closing minutes. Premier League Team of the Week: Brilliant Bruno the best of the round
By admin | | 0 Comments |

Man Utd secured one of the most dominating results in their history during the week when they demolished Southampton 9-0 at Old Trafford. An early red card for the Saints put them on the back foot immediately, while they went down to nine men later on in the game.Though Man Utd prospered in the extra space to truly punish Southampton, it was still a quality showing from the home side.Bruno Fernandes (10) in particular was in marvellous form, as he assisted two of the goals as well as scoring one himself from the penalty spot. One assist for Anthony Martial was exquisite as he dinked a lovely ball into the chest of his team-mate inside the box.The Portuguese sent a superb 44 passes into the final third in the game - a feat only bettered this week by John Fleck of Sheffield Utd.Martial (8.6) was the beneficiary of two assists on the night as he scored a double, taking his Premier League tally to four for the season.Man Utd dominate the Team of the Week for round 22, as three other of their players also made the cut.Scott McTominay (8.3) scored a lovely goal from midfield and completed 69/77 passes as well as winning the majority of his duels.Aaron Wan-Bissaka (8.8) scored his second of the campaign from right-back, while Luke Shaw (8.7) recorded two assists for team-mates on the night.Naturally, Wan-Bissaka won 100% of his tackles, too.Jesse Lingard (9.0) played his first minutes of the Premier League season after earning a loan move to West Ham, and it was pretty much the perfect debut for him as he scored two goals for his new club as Aston Villa were defeated 3-1 away.Ilkay Gundogan's (8.6) sensational form continued as Man City beat Burnley, and although he didn't get on the scoresheet this time, he did earn one assist. The German completed 67/71 passes.Making up the midfield three is James Maddison (8.3), who assisted both goals as Leicester beat Fulham 2-0 away from home.Aymeric Laporte (7.7) and Chris Basham (8.0) complete the back four.Jordan Pickford has a fight on his hands for the number one jersey at Everton as understudy Robin Olsen (7.7) was excellent against Leeds, making five important saves. .

Premier League Table: Chelsea close in on top four with Spurs win
By admin | | 0 Comments |

Chelsea kept their top-four ambitions burning on Thursday as they overcame Tottenham 1-0 away from home.A penalty from Jorginho was the sole strike in a tight 90 minutes, which saw Thomas Tuchel record his third clean sheet in as many matches as Chelsea manager. The seven points the former Borussia Dortmund and PSG boss has seen his team earn has pulled Chelsea up to sixth in the standings, within four marks of the top four. The Blues are tied on 36 points along with Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton, who have a couple of matches in hand.Meanwhile, it has been a good week for the Manchester City. Manchester City have enhanced their place at the top of the league and are three points clear of Manchester United, who were 9-0 winners over Southampton at Old Trafford on Tuesday. It has not been a good week for Liverpool, however. Their shock 1-0 home loss to Brighton has consigned them to fourth in the table behind Leicester. Trailing Manchester City by seven points and having played a game more, Jurgen Klopp’s men will need an almighty effort if they are to defend the title they so spectacular won last term.Tottenham, too, have suffered a major blow to their Champions League aspirations as their slide continues. Spurs are now seven points off the top four, although Jose Mourinho does at least have the consolation of a game in hand.Over the weekend, the table has the potential to change dramatically once more. Among the most attractive fixtures are Manchester United’s home encounter with Everton, but it is Liverpool’s meeting with Manchester City that clearly grabs top billing.View our detailed player statistics for the Premier League at the link below.
