Arsenal 4-2 Leeds United, Player Ratings: Aubameyang lethal but Meslier has nightmare
By admin | | 0 Comments |

Arsenal and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang helped themselves to a haul of goals as Leeds United were comfortably beaten 4-2 at the Emirates. The Gunners captain struck a hat-trick in the clash, showing excellent finishing to punish Marcelo Bielsa's side who were naive defensively throughout. Arsenal 4-2 Leeds United: Player Ratings, Match Stats, Player StatsBut who else performed to a high standard?✔️ GOOD PERFORMANCEHector Bellerin: 7.7The full-back hasn't always been able to recover the form he showed prior to suffering a serious ligament injury, but he turned on the style here. He was given plenty of freedom on the right flank to get involved in attacks and Leeds' backline couldn't always stay in touch with him. He capped things off by slamming home at the near post to all but seal the win in the first half, and it was an encouraging afternoon for a player still getting back to where he once was. ❌ BAD PERFORMANCEIllan Meslier: 3.9The 20-year-old has had his moments this season but it's fair to say that he did his defenders no favours with a dreadful first-half showing. He allowed Aubameyang's low shot to creep inside his near post, showing a weak hand when going down low, then he was too slow with the ball at his feet and Bukayo Saka picked his pocket, forcing the keeper to bring him down for a penalty. And to make things worse he couldn't keep out Hector Bellerin's low driven shot at his near post, an effort that he really should have done more to keep out. Bielsa will be hoping his confidence isn't negatively impacted by what was an altogether miserable showing. ⭐ STAR MANPierre-Emerick Aubameyang: 9.0The skipper returned to the side after a spell missing and did so in explosive style, taking Leeds on a run-around. He opened the scoring by fashioning a bit of space on the left flank and being able to squeeze his shot in at the near post, though Illan Meslier should perhaps have done better. He powered home from the penalty spot for number two, after Bukayo Saka had been brought down inside the area. And he showed striking instincts to connect with Smith-Rowe's arrowed cross to nod into the empty net and all but secure the victory. He also pinged a shot off the post as well as creating a Big Chance for team-mate Martin Odegaard. A great all-round display. Arsenal 4-2 Leeds United: Player Ratings, Match Stats, Player Stats .

Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal Player Ratings: Lacazette catastrophic for Gunners
By admin | | 0 Comments |

Ollie Watkins scored the only goal of the game as Aston Villa recorded a 1-0 win over Arsenal to put the pressure back on Gunners boss Mikel Arteta.Arsenal started with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on the bench and started instead with Alexandre Lacazette and Nicolas Pepe in attack. The former Lyon man, though, failed to justify his selection.Meanwhile, debutant goalkeeper Maty Ryan excelled himself.Aston Villa v Arsenal: Player Ratings, Match Stats, Player StatsSo which players stood out most?✔️ GOOD PERFORMANCEOllie Watkins: 7.6On an afternoon in which Jack Grealish was surprising quiet, Ollie Watkins continued his excellent recent form by scoring his fourth goal in five games. He was alive in the early stages of the game to make a smart near-post run to latch onto a driven Bertrand Traore cross and fire past Mat Ryan. The striker was a constant menace throughout and would have added to his tally had it not been for the goalkeeper's excellence later in the game.Four of his five efforts work the keeper, with the last flashing an inch by the post.❌ BAD PERFORMANCEAlexandre Lacazette: 5.5Lacazette's selection was one of the big pre-game talking points, yet his performance failed to justify the faith the manager Arteta had put in him. Indeed, after 59 minutes he was hauled off, having made a minimal contribution. He had 30 touches of the ball but not one of these came in the Aston Villa half, while he failed to get away a shot of any kind.Arguably worse, he won only one of seven duels and one of four headers he competed for. This was a very flimsy display. ⭐ STAR MANMaty Ryan: 8.2Former Brighton keeper Ryan started at the expense of Bernd Leno and enjoyed a fantastic debut after picking the ball out of the net with his first touch. An Arsenal fan since he was a boy, he played a vital role in keeping the score down and did not deserve to be on the losing side as he made a string of excellent saves. Notably denied Watkins in the first half.Made six saves after the early concession - and few of them were routine. On a difficult day for the Gunners, he was a clear positive.
