Today we bring you the Cricketers who scored the most runs in Champions Trophy 2009. The 2009 ICC Champions Trophy was played during September 22- October 5, 2009; 15 matches were played in the tournament. This was the sixth edition of the ‘mini’ Cricket World Cup run by ICC and the edition was hosted by South Africa. Eight teams were part of the 2009 ICC KnockOut Trophy viz. India, Pakistan, South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia, West Indies, & Sri Lanka. Australia won their second ICC Champions Trophy title. Jerome Taylor led the wickets table. Mohammad Yousuf (Pakistan) Pakistan Batsman Mohammad Yousuf scored 200 runs from the four matches he played in the ICC Champions Trophy 2009 tournament with an average of 50 and best score of 87 coming against arch-rivals India on September 26 at Centurion. With this run aggregate, Yousuf featured into the top 5 list of most runs in Champions Trophy 2009. Pakistan had batted first and made 302/9 with his 87 & Shoaib Malik’s 128. Ashish Nehra took 4 wickets, while Ishant Sharma took 2. India, on their chase, were bowled out for 248 despite Gautam Gambhir’s 57, Rahul Dravid’s 76 & Suresh Raina’s 46. 4. Paul Collingwood (England) England All-rounder Paul David Collingwood scored 202 runs from the four matches he played in the tournament with an average of 50.50 and best score of 82 coming against South Africa on September 27 in the 8th match of the tournament. With these runs & fifty, Collingwood featured into the top 5 list of most runs in Champions Trophy 2009. Batting first, England had scored 323/8 with Collingwood’s 82, Owais Shah’s 98 & Eoin Morgan’s 67. Wayne Parnell took 3 while Johan Botha took 2. South Africa, on their chase, could reach only 301/9. Skipper Graeme Smith scored 141. James Anderson & Stuart Broad both picked 3 wickets each. 3. Greame Smith (South Africa) South African Opening batsman & Captain Graeme Craig Smith scored 206 runs from the three matches he played in the tournament with an outstanding average of 68.66 and best score of 141 coming against England on September 27 in the same match that had Paul Collingwood also scoring his highest score of the tournament. With this run aggregate & 2 fifties, Smith featured into the top 5 list of most runs in Champions Trophy 2009. In his highest score innings match, England defeated South Africa by 22 runs. His highest score was apparently the highest individual score of the ICC Champions Trophy 2009. 2. Shane Watson (Australia) Australian All-rounder & Opening Batsman Shane Robert Watson would score 265 runs from the five matches he played in the tournament with an average of 88.33 and best score of 136 not out coming against England on October 2, in the first semifinal. With this run aggregate and two hundreds, Watson featured in the top 5 list of most runs in Champions Trophy 2009. In his best score match, England were bowled out for 257 despite Tim Bresnan’s 80 & Luke Wright’s 48. Peter Siddle took 3 while Brett Lee & Shane Watson took 2 wickets each. Australia chased down the target and won by 9 wickets with Watson’s hundred & Captain Ricky Ponting’s 111 not out. Ponting scored one hundred & two fifties, as he would score the most runs in Champions Trophy 2009. These were the top scorers in the sixth edition of the ICC Champions Trophy, in 2009, the ones who made to the top 5 list of runs-scorers in ICC Champions Trophy 2009. It was a round robin group stage tournament followed by KnockOut stage with 8 teams divided in two groups of 4 members each with each member team playing round robin matches against each other and top two teams of the two groups would progress to the semifinals and then the winning 2 would go to tournament final to fight out for the trophy.
